PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM- KISAN) continues to be one of the Government of India’s flagship income-support initiatives for qualifying farmer families. Eligible landholding farmer families are entitled to receive income support of ₹6,000 per annum in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each directly into their bank accounts. The scheme launched on December 1, 2018.
Here’s a farmer’s guide to PM- KISAN in 2026.
If you’re a farmer who wants to apply for PM Kisan, know your eligibility, complete eKYC or check the status of a payment, here’s what you need to know about PM-KISAN in 2026.
What is PM Kisan Samman Nidhi?
PM-KISAN is a Central Sector Scheme which is fully funded by the government. Under the scheme, eligible landholding farmer families are issued income support to cover their farm and household expenses.
The scheme considers a farmer family to be made up of husband, wife, and minor children. State and UT governments identify beneficiary farmer families per PM- KISAN scheme guidelines.

PM Kisan Eligibility 2026
The first criterion for eligibility is that you belong to an eligible landholding farmer family as per the guidelines of the scheme.
However, simply having ownership of farming land will not necessarily entitle you to a payment from PM- KISAN. The scheme has several exclusion criteria.
Farmers who fall under institutional land holders or specific higher- economic-status categories are not eligible for PM Kisan benefits. Examples include the current holders of constitutional posts and relatives of former constitutional post holders, certain ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs, specific government employees and pensioners of government organisations earning ₹10,000 or more per month, income-tax assesses, and those following registered professions such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, and architects.
The portal is also currently flagging beneficiaries for manual verification. This includes in some cases where farmers have been granted ownership of land on or after February 1, 2019. If multiple farmers from the same family are receiving benefits, payments may be withheld until after verification.
PM Kisan Benefits
Once a farmer family is deemed eligible for PM Kisan benefits, they can receive income support of ₹6,000 every year. This is typically distributed in three equal instalments of ₹2,000.
Because the money is directly transferred to a bank account, the scheme can be especially helpful for farmers looking to cover day-to-day farm expenses and household costs. As of this writing, the official PM- KISAN portal shows that the 23rd instalment of PM KISAN payments were released on June 20.
How to Apply for PM Kisan Online
Farmers who believe they may be eligible can register using the New Farmer Registration facility on the official PM- KISAN portal.
Step-by-step process
- Visit the PM Kisan official portal.
- Click on New Farmer Registration.
- Enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number, and state.
- Complete Aadhaar authentication.
- Enter the farmer and land-related information asked.
- Submit the form.
- Note the registration details for future reference.
A new registration form asks applicants to complete Aadhaar authentication. Farmers who are unable to register online can visit a Common Service Centre (CSC) or follow a registration process laid out by their state/UT government.
PM Kisan eKYC: An Important Step
eKYC is a necessary step for all farmers registered under PM- KISAN. As of this writing, the official portal lists three options for biometric-based eKYC. These are through CSC VLEs, the official PM-KISAN app, or via authorised state users.
With this in mind, farmers should not overlook eKYC as simply another piece of bureaucracy. Farmers who find their payment has stopped or who aren’t sure should check their eKYC and beneficiary status first.
How to Check PM Kisan Payment Status
To view PM Kisan payment status, farmers can utilise the official Know Your Status tool. Upon entering their information, farmers can view details such as payment status, bank name, UTR number, payment mode, and date of credit.
Farmers can also view the official beneficiary list by clicking on their state, district, sub district, block, and village name.
Final Takeaway
PM-KISAN may be simple in idea, but proper and accurate land records, Aadhaar authentication, and eKYC are essential to claiming and continuing to receive the benefit. Farmers should use the official PM Kisan portal and not other unverified websites or agents who claim they can guarantee registration or payment.
